"In February 2018, Hillary was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 25. What started as a lump casually mentioned at a postpartum check up turned out to be a Stage 3C Ductal Carcinoma HER2+. After a double mastectomy, 16 rounds of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and 30 rounds of radiation she was able to rid her body of this nasty disease, and start putting her and her family back on the path to normalcy.
She made it 6 months with zero treatment, but it was a bit of a rocky road with a few unplanned surgeries.
On Friday, January 31st after suffering weeks of debilitating headaches, Hillary’s doctors ordered an MRI of her brain and discovered a large mass had developed in her nape/occipital area of her brain. On February 7th, 2020, she had brain surgery and the neurologist was able to remove the tumor and clear the margins but it did appear to be a metastasis from the breast cancer making her now stage 4. After 3 rounds of brain radiation she was sent to oncology for chemotherapy. Now, Hillary gets chemotherapy every 3 weeks, brain MRI’s every 2 months, and full body scans every 2-3 months.
It is a challenge with 3 young kids, treatment, scans, and surgeries. Survival ship is not linear. She has learned to take her feelings as they come and go and accept that it is okay to be happy, sad, scared, angry and anxious all in one day! Despite Hillary’s diagnosis, she radiates light wherever she goes and loves and cares for her family and friends more than I can put into words. That is her reason to fight, and she will NEVER GIVE UP!"
