INDY PROUDLY PRESENTS
mason thomes
Meet Mighty Mason, a vivacious 7-year old with a heart of gold and the spirit of a lion. In July 2019, Mason was preparing to begin soccer season, posing with his team for pictures. The next day, Mason went to the doctor for headaches and vomiting that had persisted throughout the week. It was then that Mason was diagnosed with hydrocephalus with medulloblastoma. Mason had as much of the tumor removed as possible without causing too much damage. Over the next three months, Mason endured intense chemotherapy and radiation.
In November, the cancer was gone. Mason continued with maintenance rounds of chemotherapy, and began the long journey back to living as normal of a life as possible. However, on February 10, 2020, the latest MRI revealed that the cancer returned and was not responsive to the chemotherapy. Mason is now battling stage 4 medulloblastoma in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mason is bravely undergoing a different form of chemotherapy at this time. As Mason’s family, including his mother, father, three siblings, and the mighty man himself, we are united, we are strong, and WE ARE NOT DONE YET!
Mason is a witty and daring boy who loves being outdoors camping, four-wheeling, swimming, and playing with trucks and Legos. But throughout all this, his greatest attributes are evident - courage and strength matching that of adults going through this battle. In the words of Nikolai Lenin, “The most important thing in illness is never to lose heart.”
