The warrior pack program was created in hopes that INDY could provide a little extra love and support to cancer warriors entering the battlefield. The original cancer warrior, Kyle Strand always had a bag of his favorite things to take with him to treatment and appointments. That gave us the idea of spreading the love and providing warrior packs for Minnesota's Cancer Warriors.
2019 - As a non profit funds are limited, so we looked for alternative options to see this program succeed. We applied for a grant through Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund. We received the grant earlier this year and were able to gain more donations and funds from the community. In June 2019, we donated our first round of 300 backpacks to Coborn's Cancer Center in St. Cloud, MN. These backpacks were packed by Foley Intermediate students during their Time is Now Walk. Nurses will distribute the packs to patients during their treatment.
2020 - Despite the challenges of COVID-19, we were able to provide 735 backpacks to area hospitals and cancer centers across MN. Backpacks were delivered as far north as Bemidji and south as Minneapolis. These backpacks were packed by employees and managers from MN Walmart stores as well as a group of kids who wanted to give back to those in need. These backpacks provided extra comfort this year, as COVID limited visitors during hospital stays and clinic visits.
